Wellness Policy: Walcott ISD

The link between nutrition and learning is well documented.  Healthy eating habits are essential for students to achieve their full academic potential, full physical and mental growth, and lifelong health and well-being.  Schools have a responsibility to help students and staff establish and maintain lifelong, healthy eating patterns.

Implementation of the CATCH Coordinated School Health Program and its four integrated components of child nutrition services, physical education and activity, classroom education and parental involvement assist our district in fulfilling the requirements of the new Federal Public Law (PL 108.265 Section 204).

Mission Statement: The mission of Walcott ISD is to promote a healthy lifestyle for students, parents and staff which will lead to lifelong maintenance of healthy habits. All students shall posses the knowledge and skills necessary to make nutritious and enjoyable food choices for a lifetime.  In addition, the staff is encouraged to model healthy eating and physical activity as a valuable part of daily life.  This mission will be accomplished by the development and implementation of our district wellness policy which will incorporate nutrition education, physical activity, nutrition standards and any other school related activities.

Nutrition Education Goals:  WISD will educate, encourage and support healthy eating by all students of all ages.

Physical Education Goals:    WISD will provide opportunities for students to maintain physical fitness by adopting the state standards for physical activity and by promoting a school environment that is conducive to being physically fit.

Nutrition Standards

WISD will comply with the current USDA Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the Texas Public Schools Nutrition Policy.  Furthermore, WISD will comply with the Texas Public School Nutrition Policy and adhere to their recommended restrictions.
